- The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will no longer get regular software updates.
- The October 2022 security update was officially the last one for the phones.
It’s time to bury your Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL as the 2019 Google flagships complete their software update cycle. The phones were the first and last Pixel devices to sport Google’s Motion Sense tech for gesture navigation.
Google recently rolled out the November security patch for its Pixel phones, and the Pixel 4 series was not included in this month’s update list (h/t XDA Developers). That means the phones will no longer get regular monthly OTA updates from Google.
Android 13 is also the last major operating system version on the Pixel 4 and 4XL. Google had committed to three years of updates for the devices, and as per its update schedule, the guaranteed security updates ended in October 2022.
That said, Google usually puts its phones out to pasture with one final update a few months after they are off the update roster. So we might see one last OTA hitting the Pixel 4 series sometime in the future, but we don’t expect any major changes or feature additions, just some bug fixes.
The next Pixel phone reaching end-of-life is the Pixel 4a. The mid-ranger will stop receiving updates in August next year.
